This is a true story of a young man named Vicky Sarkar who regained his identity as a human being from the dark world of crime and barbarism.

Born in 1974, Vicky lost his father when he was only 2 months old. He was the youngest among his four brothers and two sisters. They had to shift to Mumbai in 1977 and settle there because his elder brother was the only earning member. He started his schooling in Mumbai but probably due to the many changes in his early childhood, he could not concentrate in studies. Somehow he managed to be regular to school till his 8th class but later he became a drop out after his 12th Class. Lack of education and proper guidance led him to bad company and bad works too. He had no knowledge of good from evil and enjoyed his life with his friends. Even he did not appear his 10th exam but some one else attended in his place and he passed his 10th Std. Vicky never took life seriously. He wanted quick money and spent time with his friends eating, drinking and whiling away the time. He used to need money to spend on his friends. Every one at home was angry with him. Elder brother used to scold him. He was denied food at home due to his disobedience and had to sleep many nights at his friends house. At a very young age Vicky knew what it was to live with unrestrained freedom without responsibility. Vicky cared for nothing. He was on his way to become a small Don.

One day he got drunk with his friends and one of his friends took him to meet with a Gang leader. Vicky was not aware that they were notorious people. He thought they loved and cared for his life. They gave him a bike and 10,000 Rupees. Vicky was very happy and wasted no time in spending the money. After few days he went back again to those gangsters. This time they promised to give him more money if he would work for them. Vicky agreed to their proposal because he wanted quick money and also he was not afraid of any thing. Then they offered him 50,000 Rupees and also a task. The task was to break into a Casino. Vicky was surprised but was very happy for the money. He went into the Casino and broke in very easily. That was his first job and he enjoyed doing it. He loved to see people fleeing in terror around him. He felt very powerful and strong when people feared him. Soon Vicky went deeper into crime and violence. Within few months Vicky was the dreaded leader among the people. He used to do Hafta wasuli from the locality where he lived. He used to carry revolvers and knife in order to shoot people in the leg who did not comply with his demand. Not only that Vicky got into bad business and became involved in murders both directly and indirectly. He thought it was very courageous act and felt a different kind of thrill. Eventually Vicky had many enemies too because he had harmed many people and killed quiet a few. Therefore people tried to take his life.

Meanwhile Vicky had got opportunity to hear about Lord Jesus Christ from an elderly lady who shared with him the love and forgiveness that Jesus offers. But Vicky turned a deaf ear to the Words of Jesus Christ. Vicky was a young boy then and many years have passed ever since.

Years passed and Vicky was now 22 years of age and fully into every kind of anti-social activities and habits. He had no fear of God nor did he need any one in his life. All kinds of Hooliganism was a normal thing for Vicky. He was even arrested once by the local police for a murder and had to spend time in prison for few months. Later he was released on bail with the help of few politically powerful people for whom he had worked earlier. One day after his release Vicky was returning from a movie. He had his revolver hidden in his pocket and was walking alone in the road in the middle of the night, when suddenly a group of rowdy people surrounded and attacked him from all sides. Since Vicky was taken by surprise he could not act and was no match for 10 to 12 people together. They were taking revenge on him and tried to cut him with swords. Every one had their turn of cutting and injuring him. At last Vicky fell to the ground helpless and severely wounded. So much so that his intestines bulged out and he was bleeding profusely. Vicky was aware that part of his body was hanging from his sides. He had no strength to get up from the ground. Helplessly, Vicky started to call upon the names of all the gods and goddesses. Then along with them he even called upon the name of Jesus since he remembered hearing about Him from the lady. Then he cried out in his pain, Jesus, if you save me I will serve you only. He was conscious enough amidst the raking pain and held to his sides and tied his stomach with his waist belt. Suddenly he got enough strength to pick himself up and some how dragged himself to the near by hospital with the help of a taxi.

After reaching the hospital, Vicky remembered the telephone number of his Uncle and called him up. He was a Christian who had been praying for his life. When the doctor saw Vicky they refused to attend to his injuries because they felt he was already a dead man and would not even survive few hours. Added to that he was Wanted by the police. He was condemned and doomed because of his crimes so they just bandaged him and left him to die. Vickys Mummy and elder brother and other relatives were by his side weeping and begging the doctors but no one listened. Vicky could hear all these and thought to himself that he would just spend his life eating and drinking and die the next day. He was still taking life very lightly. He thought he was really going to die the next day.

One month passed by and the same doctor exclaimed, it is really strange and amazing that this young man is still alive!!!. Suddenly Vicky was struck with this statement. As he was lying in the hospital, the moment when he was attacked and how he gathered his intestines and ran, came back to his memory. He also remembered how he had called upon the name of Jesus and then received a supernatural strength to get up and walk. Vicky started crying. He was shocked that he was still alive though no one wanted or expected him to live. Only his Uncle was ever present by his side praying and caring for him. Gradually Vicky started responding to the medical treatment and his heart warmed towards the Gospel of Jesus too. His Uncle told him that only because of Jesus, he was still alive. Vicky prayed to Jesus in his heart and grew strong both physically and mentally. Later he was interested to learn more about Lord Jesus. He realized that there was no escape for his crimes and violence, yet he asked forgiveness for all his sins, bad habits, crimes and mistakes from Lord Jesus. Though he had to go through judicial procedure yet it was Jesus who rescued him from guilt, shame, depression and alcoholism. With the help of prayer and the Word of God, Vicky could overcome his physical weaknesses and habits. He was reconciled to his family and Jesus filled his heart with a peace and joy that he has never experienced before. From then onwards Vicky never looked back on the crime world, nor did he ever touch a harmful weapon to defend himself. He was a different Vicky who was smiling, loving, caring and responsible person.

As years passed by, Vicky got married to a wonderful girl who knew everything that had taken place in his life and yet loved him deeply. Vicky made a decision to tell others about the love of Jesus Christ that changed his life for ever and he was raised from the life of darkness to light. Now his life is an inspiration to many young people who have lost their way in the world. He talks boldly about his past and how Jesus has changed his life completely.
