Delicious Pudding

Bread pudding was Bobbys favorite. Mummy always made pudding on Friday evenings, therefore Bobby looked forward to those evening eagerly. Pudding was not the only reason; Bobby was also eager because Friday was the last day of school. The next day i.e. Saturday and Sunday was holidays. He was free to play, climb trees, and go fishing with grand pa and so on.

What Bobby did not enjoy much was the Bible club that took place in their house. Every Sunday afternoon, Aunty Minie came to their place to tell stories from the Bible to little children. She would show colorful pictures and even the children were asked to draw and paint pictures. Bobby liked to paint but he did not enjoy memorizing verses from the Bible. Remembering the words of the Bible seemed very boring. Yet aunty Minie would insist every child to memorize the Bible. She said that leaning the Bible verse and storing them in the heart helps to keep the mind healthy and strong. When the mind is healthy, out of it flows good thoughts, good conversations and good behaviour.

Somehow Bobby was not convinced by this idea, so he avoided learning the bible verses. He would pretend to memorize but in fact he was fooling aunty Minnie and Mummy.

But soon he was going to be caught unawares. One day a new boy joined Bobbys class. He was a very timid and shy boy. Very soon he became the target of ridicule and mockery of a group of bad boys who used to bully every new comer in the school. They would try and offend every one who defied them. Bobby though never participated directly but enjoyed the dirty pranks of the bullies. It so happened during the recess time the new boy was surrounded by the bullies and a challenge was given that who would hit him on the face with a closed fist. Bobby was so tempted that he forgot all the rules and went ahead and hit the boy right between the eyes. The poor boy fell to the ground bleeding and wailing in pain. While retuning back from school Bobby feared that he too would get a spanking from his mother but nothing happened. It was Friday.

Bobby thought the storm was over.

That weekend, Bobby smelled the delicious smell of pudding in the kitchen. But, whats this? On Saturday morning, Mummy did not even call Bobby to breakfast let alone the pudding. Bobby thought, perhaps mummy was busy washing and cleaning, so he went out to the play ground in his neighborhood. Lunch time came but still there was no call from Mummy. Bobby was very hungry now. He came home and looked inside the dining hall. Oh boy! There was his little sister enjoying the pudding, every one was at the table eating. Bobby was about to get into his place but Mummy called him upstairs.

Evening came. Bobby was in no mood to do his home work. He was very hungry indeed. With tears streaming down his cheeks he went upto Mummy to ask for some food.

well, Bobby, if you can avoid memorizing the Bible verses which is helpful for a healthy mind so I thought you can go without food as well which is needed for physical strength and stamina. Mummy said sternly.

But Mummy.. I can play computer games, I am not afraid of darkness; I can oust my friend in chess; I do have a healthy and strong mind dont you think so?

No son, mummy said sadly, you may be very capable in many areas, but after you hit the new boy at school right between the eyes, I have doubts about your state of mind.

So no nourishment for the body if you dont take interest to keep your mind and heart equally healthy and strong.

The next day, aunty Minie was glad to see Bobby bending over the picture Bible and memorizing love your neighbours.

witholding food from a growing child isnt the same thing as his avoiding (the jewish book of fairytales)enforced readings, from the Old Testament Bible. While that book can be an inspiration towards the real ,merciful,all-loving,authentic God of the universe,it wrongly reveals an vengeful anthropomorphic God, of the desert, and for only one people, who is a jealous and vindictive God,unlike the one true God of us all,a true Grimms tale, for young growing minds.

Sorry for disagreeing with you Mr. Paul. The stroy is my creation and if is not enjoyable to read then I apolozise, but i just wanted to convey that learning the Scripture is as vital and necessary as eating food. The young mind need to know the Scriptures too. thank you for commenting Sir. with regards, Swapna

Horrid 3000 year old concepts, like sacrifice of animals and splashing blood over the altar(most demonic),rules for and acceptance of slavery,(thou shalt not enslave thy brother, should have been the 11th commandment)wholesale murder, rape(Lot and his daughter),stoning to death for sabbath infractions, and other nightmarish ancient customs , are reflected throughout this crazy text and  it is hardly a place for a impressionable young mind to focus;the new testament presents a kinder, more loving God and  better parables for the young.I enjoy your simple faith, and am  fond of you, nonetheless;paul

Mr. Paul. Thank you for commenting and expressing your views. I agree that some events and actions mentioned in the Old Testament are strange and seem awkward, yet I cannot deny the fact that the Bible is a impartial Book which recods the history as it is. We also see concequences of sin and disobedience and breaking of law. Bible is not a crazy text book. It is the revelation of God. The God of the OT and the NT are the same. He is both Holy and righteous and Love and merciful too. The NT era is an era of grace because of which you and me are surviving. I am gratful that He has revealed Himself both in the OT and the NT. I am gald that you felt that I had simple faith. "Simple faith" is so difficult to find in this present time. I wish I really possesed that. Thank you once again for reading and commenting. You are welcome. Regards, Swapna
