And God Said It Was Good

Though there are so many theories about the creation of the world and some do not want to accept that the creation account in the Bible is authentic, yet one fact remains clear that the world in its initial stage must have been a better place to live in.

There was no tension about global warming, pollution, arsenic water, wild fires, nor horrors of nuclear holocaust, increasing and alarming rate of immorality and selfishness and neither the griping fear of terrorism. But as years and centuries have passed by our forefathers and at present we see a very bad state of our world which once God called it Good.

If this is the situation now, what will our children witness when they become adults? Will there be anything Good left to enjoy and be stewards off? I am doubtful.

I do not know what big leaders of great countries will do about it and solve the problems of the earth but the responsibility remains for every one to his/ her part as an inhabitant of this earth. We may have oceans and continents separating us but we cannot deny that each has his/her role to play to make this world a better place to live in.

When I was a child I heard this story from my Grand ma about a young man who was rewarded by the king for his actions. I hope that this will motivate at least some one as it has motivated me to do my part and not just wait for somebody else to do it.

The story goes like this:

There was a big crowd moving from one part of the country to the other by foot. People were carrying their things in bullock carts, on donkeys etc (in my part of the globe). The King moved in the crowd in disguise to see who was the most befitting to become his noble minister. Suddenly there was an uproar that the King was coming to meet the people. Immediately people ran hither and thither trying to stand ahead in the crowd in order to have a glimpse of the King. Yet no body could recognize the king for he was in disguise. In the midst of the chaos, one of the wheels of the carts rode by a young man fell into a deep ditch. As a result the bullock also fell down. The cart was heavy with goods. The young man cried in vain for help. After a while the young man jumped from the cart, going to the rear of the cart, putting all his strength to his shoulders tried to push the cart from the ditch.

The King was watching the whole scene from a distance. After a while, he went near the young man and said, Dont you know the king is passing bye? Instead of meeting him, you are busy pulling out your cart?

The young man replied, I wish to meet him but if I delay my bullock will die.

The king replied, Perhaps the king can help you.

The young man promptly replied, Before I wait for the King to solve my problem let me try myself because I believe that God helps those who help themselves.

Then the Youngman resumed trying lifting the heavy wheels.

The King too bent down and gave a help to the young man and soon the cart and bullock were safe.

The young man turned to the king in disguise and said, You are no king but dont you think God helped me through you?

To day as we struggle in the midst of our chaotic society, with everything in the fast lane, with no room for honesty, integrity and sensitivity towards each other, we often cry out for help. We blame and brood over the declining sense of morality, the liberal values that are so easily eroding our human sense. Instead of blaming modernization or any other external enemies and waiting for the other person to rectify himself/herself first, it would be nice and sensible if we/I be the first person to change for good. The small transformation may not be obvious at once but small ripples do create an effect. You and me can become the agent of change in our society and world at large. Let us remember that God helps those who help themselves. A small deed of kindness, a firm step of integrity, a little act of patience towards others can create wonders and make our World truly a good place to live and let live.

I loved this story, Swapna. I don't believe the world was created in six 24 hour days, nor do I believe God did it because He was bored. I am HUGE fan of science and, the more I study science, the more I see the handiwork of God.
Our carbon-based brains cannot begin to understand God and his way of thinking. We will though, right? and THAT is what I am looking forward to!!

Great job and don't be discouraged. You are doing a wonderful work that will bring much fruit.

"Though there are so many theories about the creation of the world and some do not want to accept that the creation account in the Bible is authentic, yet one fact remains clear that the world in its initial stage must have been a better place to live in. "

Under the scientific model of the formation of the Earth, the early stages were definitely not a better place to live in, with no liquid water and no free oxygen in the atmosphere!

Even the world of a few hundred years ago was, for most, a far less pleasant world to live in than the world of today - disease was rife, so was crime, religious freedom didn't exist in most places (with a risk of being imprisoned, tortured or killed if you didn't accept the particular religion of those in power), surgery was brutal, travelling was dangerous (bandits were a serious threat in many places), food was limited (in quantity and variety) and there was no real way of communicating over long distances.

We've come a long way from humbler beginnings. There's still a long way to go but overall things have improved over time!

Swapna, another great article, and as usual they stimulate even the greater my desire to be that same child of simplicity and trust you spoke of in your comment to Mr. Paul. Know this, heretics we will always have with us, but you continue to stand as you are for truth and righteousness and the God of peace shall always surround, bless, and keep you.
